Weeks 17-18 // Connecting the Dots

Hi all!

At the last two weeks we focused on identifying the best physical interaction with SeeMe, to maximize the probability to ignite discourse among the young students, and eventually create supportive environment for the harmed students.

Small reminder about our latest demo so far:

The first phase was to make an ideation session, in order to create a bank of pre-defined ideas for interactions, to later present the users in the upcoming user testings.

Together with the lab team, we came up with four ideas for physical interaction with the tree to check in the next user testings:

  1. Clickable buttons on the tree that if pressed synchronously, the tree tells a relevant sentence.

  2. Button that sends all the students in the class supportive messages to their phones.

  3. Adding free text to the reporting screen, and enable an option to report un-anonymously.

  4. "Peace Makers" - weekly selected students that will be responsible to create discourse about the tree state.

The second phase was to go back to our previous users from the user testings, and ask them about an interaction with the tree. We interviewed two girls that already practiced the product, and ask them about it, we created an insights sheet from the talk and together decided to continue with the following interaction:

In additional to our traditional LEDs on the tree, display a less abstract summary of the tree state, according to the numeric reports and to textual free text explanation that the users can provide on the app.

In the technological section, we continue our progress of the SeeMe final prototype.

We printed and sanded a tree shape layer of plexiglass that will be the displayed layer of the tree (what the users see in class), and started to work on a technological layer that will be placed under the first layer, hidden.

The technological layer includes around 50 single LEDs that we had to solder together! Finally we achieved the goal, and ready to place the LED strip we created and connect the display and tech layers together. This will be done next week.

In additional to the hardware progress, we continue our work on the software side (the reporting app), especially on the design of it.

After the interaction decision (detailed above) we start to design our technological solution to make it work.

Another thing we worked on this two weeks was to think and write the first draft of our final product video. The video will include a full best using scenario of SeeMe, from the need to the solution.
